In the 1980s and 1990s, Vienna's red-light district balanced itself on a double-edged sword. On the one hand, business was booming, but on the other, it faced new conflicts every day. Red light represents sin and danger, making it the perfect symbol of this milieu. But red light also represents love and passion. It was high time that love and passion took over in Vienna's red-light district as well . In 2000, Anna's then-good friend Alexandra confessed that she earned her living through "sex for money" – a world Anna was as familiar with as Mars, that is, not at all. Moved by the gruesome and depressing experiences in Alexandra's life, she decided after some time to help her.
